Tilly and the Buttons Maternity Agnes Dress
As soon as we found out that I was pregnant I started looking at maternity sewing patterns. The Tilly and the Buttons Agnes was my favourite – there are so many beautiful versions of it. The ruched front is perfect for a growing bump!
I made it up using our Bromley Jersey, it is a lovely summery pattern with vibrant red and pink flowers on a navy background. This jersey is also a nice weight for this time of year. I made the version with the cropped sleeves so that I could wear it on both hot and cooler days over the summer.
Initially I cut a size 4 at the top and graded to a size 3 at the hips, but when I tried it on it was too big across the back. So, I laid the pattern on again and re-cut to a size 3, the fit was much better. I had a lot of trouble with the sleeves, I could not get them to insert smoothly. I am sure this is because I initially cut a larger size and then had to make it smaller. I also shortened the dress about 6 inches so it finished just above my knee.
The pattern instructions are easy to follow and apart from the sleeve issue (which was my fault) it was straightforward to put together. It is very comfortable to wear and it is going to be worn a lot over the next couple of months.
These jerseys would also make a gorgeous Agnes dress….
Happy sewing xx
