The Great British Sewing Bee 2025: Episode 2

Week 2 was active wear week.

Pattern Challenge - Seven Panel Cap

This week's pattern challenge was to sew a seven panel cap with a mesh side panel, reinforced peak and a fastening at the back. The sewers were given 3 hours for this challenge.

The judges were looking for neat top stitching that followed the curves of the hat. Kit matched the colour of his topstitching thread to his fabric which was a very good idea because it blended in. If you use a contrasting thread any wobbles with your stitching will stand out more.

If you fancy sewing yourself a baseball cap here are some pattern suggestions:

Transformation Challenge

This week the transformation challenge was to turn a vintage cycling top into a party outfit. They chose three cycling jerseys each and could use fastenings from the haberdashery but they were not allowed to use additional trims or extra fabric. They were given 90 minutes to complete this challenge.

The judges were looking for an outfit, not just a top or bottoms. They also wanted the three jersey tops fabrics to be complimentary and coordinating so the outfits were cohesive.

I love the creativity of this challenge!
