The Great British Sewing Bee 2025: Episode 3

Episode 3 is Design Icons week!

Pattern Challenge - Diane von Furstenberg Wrap Dress

The dressmakers were asked to sew a wrap dress that was inspired by Diane von Furstenberg. Diane von Furstenberg designed her wrap dress in the 1970's and it was the height of elegance!

A wrap dress wraps around the body and has a tie to secure it, the tie goes through a little keyhole so you can pass the strap through to the front. The dress also has some elastic at the front to help pull it in slightly to avoid it gaping. The sewers were also asked to use a coverstitch to make the edges neat. The judges were looking for a beautiful finish. They were given 3.5 hours to complete the pattern challenge.

I have some beautiful viscose knit fabrics which are drapey and perfect for sewing yourself a jersey wrap dress:

Transformation Challenge

For the transformation challenge the dressmakers were asked to turn soft furnishings into a Vivienne Westwood inspired garment. I say this every week but the dressmakers are always so creative!

Made to Measure - Luxurious Garments Inspired by Versace

For the Made to Measure the contestants had to make a luxurious garment inspired by Versace. Versace have a few characteristics to their garments which they always come back to: The Medusa Head, black and gold, a tropical print, cut outs (the famous dress that Liz Hurley wore that was held together by safety pins) and bondage themes. Their finished garments needed to have a sexy silhouette too.

It was another great episode! Let me know what you thought of it in the comments.
